Full Day Kindergarten
Our full day kindergarten program is in session from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Before care beginning at 6:45 a.m. is available at no extra charge; after care hours are available if needed. We also offer a morning Wrap Around program between the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to supplement a child that is enrolled in an afternoon kindergarten session in the public schools.

The full day curriculum is based on the Wright Group, Math Their Way, as well as a strong science and social studies component. Children are instructed on an individual as well as group basis. The significant benefit of our program is our limit of 15 students per class. This small class size facilitates individual growth and enhanced self-esteem.

Reading

We use a whole language approach to reading based upon the MacMillian and Wright Group programs. There is strong emphasis on developmentally appropriate reading materials to encourage independent reading. Another way our program teaches reading skills is through writing. Beginning in September, each child will keep a daily journal. They will begin writing one-letter entries and eventually progress to complete sentences. While writing in their journals, students will engage in inventive spelling, which will help them to learn phonics. Big Books will be incorporated into daily lessons and children will be able to borrow books from our lending library.

Math

Manipulative materials provide hands-on experiences for learning and understanding mathematical concepts. These manipulative materials include pattern blocks, multi-link cubes, teddy bear counters, building blocks, and scales. Through the use of these materials, students will participate in sorting, graphing, estimating, and patterning activities. They will learn place value, counting to 100 by ones, fives, and tens, and addition and subtraction facts to ten. They will begin to add and subtract using money and will even practice telling time.

Social Studies

This unit will focus on families, national and cultural holidays, community helpers, and early explorers. Maps, globes, and field trips will enable students to make new friends, learn about far away places, and take imaginary trips around the world.

Science

Our students are introduced to the scientific method through classifying, observation, experiments, and prediction. Units of study will include animals, plants, ecology, weather, nutrition, and the solar system.

Lunch Program

Kindergarten students eat lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. They will eat lunch during the first part of the hour and then have recess outside. We serve pizza every Wednesday and Friday for $2.00 per day. The school provides a light morning and afternoon snack.

Report Cards

Mid year conferences will be scheduled in January and completed report cards will be sent home in June.
